TPO - The contest aims to promote the dissemination of knowledge on energy saving and electricity saving; at the same time, it helps raise community awareness and consciousness in saving energy and protecting the environment. Every small action, such as turning off electrical devices when not in use, adjusting air conditioners appropriately, or optimizing production processes, contributes to making big changes for the sustainable development future of the country.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the online contest “Learn about Knowledge of Energy Saving and Efficient Use in 2026” on the morning of June 16, Mr. Dang Hai Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion, Ministry of Industry and Trade, said that in the context of increasing energy demand, especially during severe heat waves, saving and efficient use of energy is not only an urgent requirement for each household and enterprise but also an important solution to ensure national energy security, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and aim for sustainable development.
Faced with this requirement, the Government and the Prime Minister have issued many important mechanisms and policies to promote energy saving and efficient use, such as: The Law Amending and Supplementing a Number of Articles of the Law on Energy Saving and Efficient Use was passed by the National Assembly on June 18, 2025 and takes effect from January 1, 2026. And most recently, Directive No. 09 dated March 19, 2026 on enhancing energy saving, promoting energy transition and developing electric transport; Directive No. 10 dated March 30, 2026 on enhancing electricity saving and developing rooftop solar power. These are very important orientations for the whole society to join hands for the goal of efficient energy use and sustainable development.
According to Mr. Dung, the online contest “Learn about Knowledge of Energy Saving and Efficient Use in 2026” is organized within the framework of communication activities of the National Program on Energy Saving and Efficient Use for the period 2019-2030 to promote the dissemination of knowledge on energy saving and electricity saving; at the same time, it helps raise community awareness and consciousness in saving energy and protecting the environment.
In the strong trend of digital transformation, online platforms are becoming effective tools for connecting and conveying information to the community. Organizing the contest to learn about knowledge of energy saving and efficient use in 2026 in an online format not only enhances interactivity but also creates conditions for the message of energy saving and efficient use to reach a wider audience, especially young people - a force playing an important role in forming a green lifestyle and spreading positive behaviors to society.
According to the leader of the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion, 2026 is also the 5th consecutive year the contest has been organized. Through previous seasons, the contest has received very positive response with hundreds of thousands of participants nationwide. These figures show that society's awareness of energy saving and efficient use is increasingly improving, and at the same time affirming the effectiveness of communication activities implemented by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in recent times.
“The Ministry of Industry and Trade also hopes that through this forum, management agencies, enterprises, and the community will continue to strengthen coordination, promote the application of new technologies, high-efficiency equipment, develop renewable energy, and gradually form habits of saving and efficient energy use in the whole society,” Mr. Dung said.
Mr. Pham Viet Thach, Deputy Head of Environment and Sustainable Development Department, Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), said that the contest is organized in the context of continued high demand for energy and electricity, while the requirements for ensuring energy security, economic development, and achieving sustainable growth goals are increasingly setting new demands. In particular, prolonged heatwaves cause electricity loads to increase sharply in many areas, especially in the North, showing that saving and efficient use of electricity not only helps reduce costs for people and enterprises but also contributes importantly to ensuring safe and stable operation of the national electricity system.
As an enterprise tasked with ensuring electricity supply for socio-economic development and people's lives, EVN is well aware that along with investment in power generation and grid development, saving and efficient use of electricity is one of the important, low-cost, and long-term effective solutions to contribute to ensuring safe, stable, and sustainable electricity supply.
EVN has also closely coordinated with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, localities, and electricity customers to implement many programs on electricity saving, load adjustment, demand-side management, consulting on efficient electricity use, and applying digital technology to help customers monitor and optimize electricity use. At the same time, EVN has also strengthened coordination with Departments of Industry and Trade, local authorities, and key energy-using enterprises to promote propaganda, technical consulting, and monitoring of compliance with regulations on energy saving and efficient use.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Duc, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Radio and Television Agency, said that this is not merely a knowledge contest but also a very practical online contest to learn about knowledge of energy saving and efficient use in 2026. This is not only a useful playground to disseminate knowledge but also a modern form of communication, contributing to spreading positive actions and encouraging each citizen to change their energy use habits towards saving, efficiency, and sustainability.
According to the organizing committee, the contest will be held online on the website of the National Program on Energy Saving and Efficient Use (https://tietkiemnangluong.com.vn/). The contest is divided into 5 rounds, from 8:00 a.m. on June 16, 2026 to 12:00 p.m. on July 20, 2026. The questions are designed in multiple-choice format with content revolving around topics such as energy policy, energy labels, energy saving, electricity saving, good practices for energy saving, safe, economical, and efficient electricity use, Earth Hour, etc.
All Vietnamese citizens and foreigners living, studying and working in and outside the country are eligible to participate.
After each round, the organizing committee will award 5 prizes to the 5 participants with the highest results. One special prize of 3,000,000 VND will be awarded to the participant with the most correct answers and the most accurate prediction in the shortest time.
