Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung extended congratulations to the US Government and people on the anniversary, while commending the country's remarkable achievements over the past quarter millennium.

He noted that the United States has become one of the world's leading powers and an important driver of global economic growth, innovation, and scientific and technological progress. He expressed confidence that a strong and prosperous United States would continue making positive contributions to peace, stability, cooperation and development worldwide.

Looking back on bilateral ties, Trung highlighted key milestones, including the normalisation of relations in 1995, the establishment of the Comprehensive Partnership in 2013 and the elevation of ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2023.

Welcoming the United States' commitment to supporting a strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous Vietnam, he expressed confidence that the two countries would open a new chapter in bilateral relations based on respect for each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political systems, as well as mutual benefit.

The minister also affirmed that Vietnam and ASEAN hope the United States would continue playing a constructive and responsible role in promoting peace, stability, the rule of law, and inclusive and sustainable development in the region and beyond.

Addressing the ceremony, US Ambassador Jennifer Wicks said she was honoured to begin her tenure in Vietnam as the United States celebrates the 250th anniversary of its Independence Day.

She noted that the United States and Vietnam have overcome differences from the past to build a strong and dynamic relationship, expressing confidence that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership would continue to advance through a forward-looking agenda.

According to the ambassador, the two countries still have significant potential to expand cooperation across economic and trade ties, politics, security, law enforcement, health care and education, contributing to the achievement of their shared goals.
