WILMINGTON, DE — A 40-year-old man is facing multiple firearm and other charges after Wilmington police said officers investigating possible gunfire encountered him near East 23rd and Jessup streets.
Members of the Wilmington Police Department’s Gun Intelligence Unit were in the area at approximately 1:09 p.m. Sept. 14 when they heard what they believed could be gunfire, according to police.
While investigating, officers saw a man exit an alley in the 300 block of East 23rd Street and allegedly begin acting suspiciously, police said.

Officers attempted to make contact with Karl Ingram, 40, but police allege he fled on foot.
A short time later, officers took Ingram into custody following a brief struggle, according to police. Investigators allege that during the struggle, a firearm in Ingram’s possession was pointed in the direction of an officer.
Police reported recovering a loaded 9mm handgun and one spent shell casing.
Ingram was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, first-degree reckless endangering, aggravated menacing, and resisting arrest.

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $71,000 cash-only bail, according to police.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
