Yuno Energy has announced it will freeze prices for its 100,000 electricity and gas customers this winter. This means the supplier's customers will not face a price increase until at least next March.

However, Yuno did increase its prices by 9.5% for electricity and 11% for gas in July. These increases added approximately €168 to an average household's annual electricity bill and around €156 to yearly gas bills.

Commenting on the freeze, Yuno Energy's managing director Margaret O'Connor stated, "We know energy costs are a real concern for households, particularly heading into winter, so we want to reassure customers that they won’t face price increases from us."

Earlier this week, PrepayPower, Yuno's sister company and the country's largest pay-as-you-go electricity and gas supplier, also announced a price freeze for the winter for its approximately 200,000 customers.

Meanwhile, Electric Ireland has confirmed it will not increase its prices again this year, following tariff hikes for electricity and gas in July.

Most major energy providers have raised their rates for customers this year.

The Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) has introduced enhanced protection measures for energy customers this winter, including revised repayment terms for customers in arrears.

Latest figures from the CRU indicate that in July, 14% (322,234) of domestic electricity customers were in arrears, and over a quarter (27% or 188,882) of domestic gas customers were behind on their bills.
