Zia Memorial Museum will be reopened soon after renovation: Liberation War Affairs Minister

The Minister of Liberation War Affairs, Ahmed Azam Khan, said that the Zia Memorial Museum in Chattogram will be renovated and reopened to visitors soon.
He said this while speaking to journalists after visiting the museum adjacent to the Chattogram Circuit House on Friday.
The minister said that due to the 'politics of revenge' of the previous government, this historic building had been neglected and damaged due to lack of maintenance for a long time. The museum will be restored to its former glory and the memory of Ziaur Rahman and various artifacts used by him will be preserved through modernization. Some rooms of the museum have been kept vacant for the convenience of renovation work.
Addressing journalists, Ahmed Azam Khan said that Ziaur Rahman played an important role at various stages of Bangladesh's history, from Major Zia to President Zia. This museum was established to preserve his memory. Through renovation work, his memorabilia and used items will be properly preserved.
The minister further said that Ziaur Rahman announced the declaration of independence during the Liberation War, participated in the war, and received the title of Bir Uttam. He served as the Chief of Army Staff and later as President.
He said that Ziaur Rahman played a significant role in changing the economic and development trajectory of the country. He also commented that subsequent governments tried to undermine his contribution. The minister said that the ministry will take utmost initiatives to preserve Zia's memory.
Meanwhile, State Minister Ishraque Hossain said that both the museum and the Zia Memorial Complex are important historical structures. It is important for future generations to know the history of the country, because without knowing history, a nation cannot properly build itself.
During the visit, Liberation War Affairs State Minister Ishraque Hossain, Member of Parliament from Chattogram-8 constituency Ershad Ullah, District Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mia, South District BNP convener Idris Mia, and senior officials of the ministry were present.
