Old trees in Brandenburg's parks are struggling with drought and heavy rain. The State Monuments Office is going on the offensive for more climate protection. What does that look like in concrete terms?
Potsdam (dpa/bb) - The effects of climate change are being felt in Brandenburg's protected gardens and parks. Severe drought or sudden, heavy downpours, for example, endanger old trees, the State Monuments Office announced. From a monument conservation perspective, it is clear that action must be taken - also to preserve archaeological sites, for example.
"Against the backdrop of climate change, all efforts to generate energy through renewable technologies are fundamentally worthy of support," the monument conservators said. The Brandenburg authority contributes its part by enabling solar panels on roofs, even though buildings are under monument protection.
Red solar modules despite monument protection for climate protection
"Like other buildings, monuments are generally suitable for the installation of solar systems." However, there may be special requirements to avoid endangering the monument substance and the statics of the buildings, according to the State Monuments Office.
The further development of solar modules also helps - there are now many possibilities to install color-matched and non-glare panels - for example, red solar modules for red roofs. The approval rate has been well over 90 percent for years.
