A man in Britain was released on bail after allegedly throwing a three-year-old child into an enclosure with crocodiles at a zoo in Cambridgeshire, after authorities deemed him "not in a fit state to be questioned."
The incident occurred on Thursday at the Johnsons of Old Hurst zoo. According to police, the toddler was at the venue with his family when the 30-year-old suspect threw him over a fence approximately 1.2 meters high, causing him to land in an enclosure where crocodiles were present and fall from a height of over 3.5 meters.
The Rescue and Condition of the Child
The owner's wife reacted immediately, entering the enclosure and removing the child, an action described as particularly brave by the director of the National Centre for Reptile Welfare.
The child was taken to hospital with serious injuries and is in critical but stable condition. According to medical assessments, he likely has fractures to his arm and pelvis, while British media report that he may have also been attacked by a crocodile.
The alleged perpetrator, a man about 30 years old from Norfolk, was arrested for attempted murder but was temporarily released on bail as he was deemed unfit to be questioned. According to reports, he has learning disabilities.
The decision sparked strong reactions in Britain, especially on social media, with users expressing anger and questions about the authorities' handling of the case.
Investigations into the exact circumstances of the incident continue.
