Connecting the Big Market: Express "Small Packages" Exceed 100 Billion Pieces

The State Post Bureau released data on July 4 showing that as of June 30, China's express delivery volume has exceeded 100 billion pieces this year, 9 days earlier than in 2025.

Each "small package" serves millions of households, connecting production, circulation, and consumption, reflecting the continuous warming of the consumer market and demonstrating new achievements in the high-quality development of the postal and express delivery industry.

Industrial synergy continues to deepen—

Around the "618" shopping festival, the Zhongtong Express Hangzhou Dajiangdong branch was particularly busy. Sorting equipment ran at high speed, and packages were automatically diverted by destination.

Branch manager Zhu Shuai introduced that the daily business volume is about 36,000 pieces, and since June, the volume has doubled compared to usual.

"We have explored a model of 'upstairs merchant warehouse, downstairs sorting center' to further shorten the delivery process, compressing the express logistics time by more than 12 hours, better adapting to the delivery needs of manufacturing and e-commerce companies around the branch," Zhu Shuai said.

Liu Jiang, director of the Strategic Planning Research Department of the State Post Bureau Development Research Center, said that since this year, a series of consumption-promoting policies have continued to take effect, the consumer market has grown steadily, and the consumption structure has been continuously optimized, driving the expansion of the express delivery market.

From factory workshops to millions of households, from serving production to promoting consumption, the express delivery industry continues to promote the coordinated development of the industry chain and supply chain, providing strong support for economic development.

Service network continues to expand—

In Wuzhou, Guangxi, express delivery companies have launched special plans for agricultural products, optimizing front-end services and compressing transit time. Since this year, nearly 20,000 pieces of northern and southern dried goods have been shipped; in Sanmenxia, Henan, seasonal wild vegetables are shipped via express at an average of 8,000 pieces per day, with cold chain lines achieving next-day delivery within the province and delivery to key cities in two days...

The continuously improving delivery network allows more specialty agricultural products to leave the countryside and reach the whole country, and also makes the two-way flow of urban and rural consumption smoother.

Green development achieves remarkable results—

Lin Hu, spokesperson for the State Post Bureau and director of the Market Supervision Department, introduced that since the implementation of the newly revised "Interim Regulations on Express Delivery" one year ago, the industry's packaging standardization rate has reached 86%, over 1.6 billion cartons have been recycled and reused, and the total number of new energy and clean energy vehicles has exceeded 75,000.

"More and more consumers are experiencing thinner express cartons, thinner tape, smaller waybills, and more reusable packaging. Low-carbon smart delivery is reshaping consumers' lifestyles," Lin Hu said.

A relevant official from the State Post Bureau stated that the industry is currently shifting its focus to effective quality improvement and reasonable quantity growth. In the future, with the continuous implementation of consumption-promoting policies and the gradual growth of new industry momentum, the postal and express delivery industry will further play a leading role in the logistics field, helping to smooth economic circulation and continuously inject momentum into high-quality economic development.
