Christiane Amanpour To Leave CNN After 43 Years
Veteran journalist Christiane Amanpour has announced plans to leave CNN in June 2027, bringing her 43-year association with the network to an end.
The 68-year-old chief international anchor revealed her decision on Monday, describing CNN as her partner for “43 fantastic years” and saying she was looking forward to new projects.
“Remember: always be truthful, not neutral,” Amanpour said in her statement.
Amanpour has hosted her flagship interview programme on CNN International since 2009, interviewing global leaders and reporting on major international conflicts. She reduced her presenting schedule in January 2025 and is expected to move to a weekly format in January 2027 before the programme ends in May. She will continue reporting for the network until June.
CNN chairman Mark Thompson said he had been discussing the decision with Amanpour for several months, describing her as “one of the most trusted and beloved journalists anywhere.”
He also praised her decades of reporting and said the network would celebrate her contributions before her departure.
Reflecting on her career, Amanpour highlighted assignments covering the First Gulf War, the Bosnian War, Rwanda, Afghanistan, Ukraine, and Iran.
She credited the colleagues, programme teams and field crews who worked alongside her, saying their shared commitment to seeking facts, evidence and humanity had been central to her work.
Amanpour said she would continue to support CNN’s commitment to independent journalism as she prepares for the next chapter of her career.
