The Corredor Interoceánico del Istmo de Tehuantepec seeks to bring in the business community of the State of Mexico as an ally to boost investments in one of the most important economic projects promoted by the federal government.
With this objective, representatives of the coordination of the Polos de Desarrollo para el Bienestar (Prodecobi) held a meeting with members of the Consejo de Cámaras y Asociaciones Empresariales del Estado de México (Concaem), where they presented the investment opportunities offered by the 14 industrial poles distributed in Oaxaca, Veracruz, Chiapas and Tabasco.
The deputy director of the Corredor Interoceánico, Jorge Arturo Anglard, explained that the strategy seeks to attract national companies to strengthen the economic development of the south-southeast of the country through industrial parks connected by railway, port, and highway infrastructure.
"We want the corridor to be an ally for development and to continue attracting companies. Today we have a trust fund that will allow us to complete pending works and strengthen connectivity and services," he said.
More than a train
During the presentation, it was highlighted that the project is no longer limited to connecting the Pacific Ocean with the Gulf of Mexico, but aims to become a pole of economic growth through the installation of industries, logistics centers, and supply chains.
Currently, the corridor integrates 14 Polos de Desarrollo para el Bienestar: six in Oaxaca, four in Veracruz, three in Chiapas, and one in Tabasco, where companies can establish operations taking advantage of the region's railway and port infrastructure.
In addition to freight transportation, the project has three strategic railway lines: the Línea Z, which connects Coatzacoalcos with Salina Cruz; the Línea FA, which links to the Tren Maya in Palenque; and the Línea K, which connects the corridor to the Guatemala border.
Opportunities for businesses from the State of Mexico
The president of Concaem, Mauricio Massud Martínez, considered that the business sector of the State of Mexico can play an important role in this project, since the organization groups together 67 business chambers and associations with presence in various productive sectors.
"We are not only talking about a railway project, but about a project that seeks to generate investment, employment, and development around the 14 poles," he stated.
He added that learning about the scope of the Plan México will allow businesses from the State of Mexico to identify new business opportunities in a region that the federal government aims to turn into a new logistics and industrial axis of the country.
However, those responsible for the project recognized that there are still important challenges, mainly in terms of availability of electricity, water supply, and service infrastructure, essential to consolidate the arrival of new investments.
