In the context of the red code heatwave spreading across the entire country, employers are obligated to apply protective measures for workers, and the Territorial Labor Inspectorate will verify compliance and impose sanctions as provided by Government Emergency Ordinance No. 99/2000, to ensure adherence to regulations and workforce protection.

In the context of an extreme summer bringing a red code heatwave nationwide, businesses must quickly adapt operational procedures to protect workers, while control bodies monitor compliance with current regulations. Labor regulations provide clear measures for risk reduction and maintaining a safe working environment, and ITM inspectors are tasked with verifying compliance and applying legally prescribed sanctions in case of violations.

Heatwave and Employer Obligations

A representative of the Territorial Labor Inspectorate emphasized, in a post on Facebook, that "The heatwave does not suspend employers' legal obligations. Labor inspectors will verify compliance with protective measures, and where violations are found, they will apply sanctions provided by law." According to Government Emergency Ordinance No. 99/2000, when temperatures exceed 37 degrees or the temperature-humidity index exceeds 80, employers are obliged to implement measures for worker protection.

Concrete Measures for Worker Protection

Almost the entire country is under a red code heatwave with extreme thermal discomfort, prompting employers to ensure appropriate conditions at production units and other workspaces. Essential requirements include providing adequate amounts of mineral water – 2-4 liters per person per shift, ensuring ventilation in workspaces, the possibility to alternate work periods with time spent in shaded areas, reducing the intensity of physical activities, and proper use of personal protective equipment.

Weather Forecast and Impact on Business Operations

According to meteorological administration estimates, until Wednesday morning the maximum temperature may reach 41 degrees Celsius in several areas of the country, and nights will be tropical, with minimums between 17 and 25 degrees. In this context, sectors with intense physical activities or those dependent on logistics flows may see adjustments in schedules or work methods to maintain operational efficiency without jeopardizing employee health.
