Blanket of fog delays, cancels flights at Auckland Airport

Flights were cancelled and delayed at Auckland Airport after a layer of fog blanketed the city this morning.

Fog restrictions were in place and were eventually lifted at 8.51am.

Five domestic regional flights have been cancelled, while 12 were delayed due to fog.

Domestic flights to Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, and Queenstown, as well as international flights, have not been affected.

According to MetService, fog or low cloud was forecast for Northland, Auckland, Coromandel Peninsula, and Bay of Plenty overnight and this morning. The weather in Auckland was expected to become fine in the afternoon.
