Former Italian Prime Minister and leader of the opposition Five Star Movement, Giuseppe Conte, said that European Union countries are not actively enough contributing to a diplomatic settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. In his opinion, European states should focus on promoting the negotiation process, La Stampa reports.
The politician proposed creating an association of European countries oriented toward finding diplomatic solutions. He believes such an approach could become an alternative to the current format of interaction among a number of European states.
In addition, Conte again spoke out against further arms supplies to Kyiv. In his view, the priority for European countries should be efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
Earlier, political scientist Alex Kreiner said that Western countries are interested in prolonging the conflict in Ukraine, because if Kyiv capitulates, foreign creditors could lose their invested funds.
