The tragedy and criminality in the Gaza Strip continue to unfold, revealing day by day the occupation's systematic strategy aimed at dismantling the foundations of civil life and destroying the social and human fabric of the Strip.
The targeting of security and police personnel was not separate from this plan, but rather aligned with a series of repeated assassinations and attacks targeting everyone who bears the responsibility of organizing citizens' lives and protecting the social fabric.
The latest of these painful aspects was the assassination of the Police Governor in Gaza, Colonel Jamal Abu Kamil, in a new crime that proves the falsity of the media claims and the alleged talk of a two-week truce. This "alleged truce" was nothing but a cover for treacherous crimes committed in darkness and in the open alike, targeting field and national leaders who are the safety valve against chaos and the preservation of civil peace, especially in extremely complex and dangerous humanitarian and security conditions.
The Gaza Strip has endured nearly three years of devastating war, a period sufficient, according to all military and purely logical calculations, to end any police or security apparatus, especially in a catastrophic reality that lacks the minimum requirements for survival. The members of the police force have not received their salaries regularly for many long years, and they and their families live under the burden of displacement, bombing, hunger, and comprehensive destruction.
Despite all these harsh conditions that exceed human capacity, members and officers of the Palestinian police still wear their official uniforms, or what is available of them, and stand at intersections, in markets, shelters, and camps to serve citizens and protect the home front. This steadfastness is not just a traditional job performance, but a deep-rooted national doctrine and an absolute belief that protecting the Palestinian citizen and preserving their security are an integral part of the battle for survival and steadfastness on this land.
The occupation fully understands that the absence of police means chaos and lawlessness, which is why it systematically targets its personnel in a desperate attempt to strike the popular base and fragment the social fabric from within. Colonel Jamal Abu Kamil, and before him hundreds of martyrs from the security and police forces, fell while performing their humanitarian and national duty in organizing traffic, securing scarce aid, preventing hoarding of goods, and protecting public and private property.
These pure bloods spilled by the occupation confirm once again that the Gaza police are not just an emergency security formation, but an integral part of the pulse of the Palestinian street. As long as these heroes continue to perform their mission without material compensation and without resources, they are writing with their blood and steadfastness an immortal national epic that thwarts all plans of displacement and societal collapse.
The national and humanitarian duty requires everyone to condemn these ongoing crimes against the leaders and cadres of the Palestinian police in Gaza, and to highlight their silent heroism that keeps the candle of hope lit amidst the dark, devastating war.
