Major General Mohamed El-Shehawi, a fellow at the Military Academy for Higher Studies and Strategy and former head of Chemical Warfare, stated that the global economy is facing increasing pressures due to the repercussions of military tension and related energy crises, as transportation and transit costs, as well as oil and gas prices, are escalating.
El-Shehawi explained, during his meeting with media personality Saad Ghoneim on the program "Fi Al-Youm Al-Sabea" (On the Seventh Day), broadcast on Al-Shams channel, that these crises are directly reflected in global inflation rates. He noted ongoing questions about the feasibility of these military confrontations and their impact on all parties. He pointed out that the American administration is following a strategic approach known as the "theory of smoke and mirrors," characterized by the exchange of divergent statements and declarations that may seem contradictory to the reality on the ground. While official statements speak of decisive outcomes, other parties continue to prove their ability to withstand and retaliate, reflecting a discrepancy between media discourse and actual field operations, amidst increasing pressure from the international community to contain the crisis and halt its economic repercussions.
He affirmed that the current conflict has witnessed a significant depletion of military and strategic resources, as the cost of defensive operations is rising compared to the operational cost of offensive weapons, such as drones and missiles. He explained that this financial and military disparity imposes clear pressures on ammunition stockpiles and defense systems, in addition to the dispersal of naval vessels and units across multiple vital areas, which enhances the state of strategic exhaustion.
He indicated that while the parties to the conflict are incurring heavy losses, some major powers not directly involved, such as Russia and China, are benefiting from the repercussions of the current situation. Russia is achieving economic gains due to the rise in energy and oil prices, while China sees the depletion of Western resources as an opportunity to reshape international balances in its favor.
He stressed that on the internal Iranian front, the local economy is suffering from widespread deterioration and a noticeable rise in exchange rates, which has burdened citizens. However, external military pressures have contributed to unifying the internal front instead of causing the planned collapse, benefiting from its geographical depth and its hidden underground military capabilities, as well as the continued production and development of drones and support for regional military supply chains.
