Patent War Heats Up, Insta360 Strikes Back at DJI
KOMPAS.com - The feud between two popular camera manufacturers, DJI and Insta360, is heating up again.
After DJI sued Insta360 for alleged patent infringement related to the Luna Ultra handheld camera, Insta360 has now launched a counterattack.
The Chinese company announced that it has filed two new lawsuits against DJI in the United States. In its lawsuits, Insta360 accuses DJI of infringing on a number of patents related to gimbal and 360-degree camera technology.
According to Insta360, the disputed technologies include gimbal stabilization, gimbal direction control, camera stabilization, telemetry overlay display, and panoramic video stabilization.
These technologies are said to be used in various DJI products, ranging from the Osmo Pocket series, Ronin/RS, Osmo Mobile, to DJI's latest 360-degree camera, the DJI Osmo 360.
"At Insta360, we prefer to let our products speak for themselves. However, we are not afraid to face legal battles if challenged," said Insta360 founder JK Liu, as reported by KompasTekno from GSMArena.
"We are fully committed to protecting our innovations and will take firm steps to defend our intellectual property rights from infringement," Liu continued.

Starting from the Launch of the Insta360 Luna Ultra

This latest conflict began on June 10, coinciding with the launch of the Insta360 Luna Ultra.
On the same day, DJI filed two lawsuits in the United States alleging that the Luna Ultra was too similar to their latest gimbal camera, the Osmo Pocket 4P.
The Insta360 Luna Ultra and DJI Osmo Pocket 4P both appear as pocket vlogging cameras equipped with dual cameras.
DJI claims that the Luna Ultra's design violates its design patents.
In the lawsuit documents, DJI mentions several elements it considers similar, including the elongated body shape, the neck connecting to the gimbal, the camera module at the top, the rotatable screen, and the layout of buttons and control wheels.
In addition to the physical design, DJI also accuses Insta360 of violating four technology patents related to subject tracking systems and automatic gimbal control.
Through this lawsuit, DJI is asking the court to issue a permanent injunction to stop the sale of the Luna Ultra in the United States.
