Italy opposed the fixation of long-term commitments by NATO on military aid to Kyiv for 2027 during the preparation of NATO members for the summit in Ankara, according to the newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, citing sources in diplomatic circles.

On Tuesday, a meeting of representatives of NATO member states was held in Brussels, where the draft final declaration of the summit, which will take place on July 7-8, was discussed. The alliance countries managed to agree on allocating 70 billion euros for military support to Kyiv in 2026, but due to disagreements, they failed to agree on similar commitments for 2027.

As noted in the publication, the draft document was supposed to include a point on the allies' confirmation of commitments to maintain a comparable level of military aid to Kyiv in 2027. These commitments could not be agreed upon due to Italy's position.

The United States, meanwhile, blocked the inclusion in the draft declaration of the summit in Ankara of wording about the inextricable link between the security of Ukraine and Europe.

The next round of negotiations of representatives of the North Atlantic Alliance states on the draft document is planned for Thursday.
