In a May op-ed that was published in the Journal Star, interim president of the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Matt Williams, said, “Nebraska’s future depends on whether we are willing to look beyond short-term fixes and pursue structural improvements that position our state for sustained growth.”

Williams was appointed in an interim capacity in February. He will give way in mid-July to Joseph Young, who has been selected to be the chamber’s next president and chief executive officer.

“I am honored to join the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce & Industry and to have the opportunity to serve Nebraska’s business community once again,” Young said in a news release. “Together with our members, policymakers and community leaders, I look forward to advancing policies and programs that strengthen Nebraska’s economy, support job creation and create opportunities for all Nebraskans.”

Young served as executive vice president of the chamber from 2015 through 2018.

In addition to his role with the chamber, Young has held executive leadership positions at Samson Construction, Cox Communications, the Greater Omaha Chamber and the Nebraska Department of Economic Development.

He currently is a managing partner with Blue Tide Ventures in Florida.

Young earned an MBA from Nebraska Wesleyan University and a bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
