President Mahama to cut sod for 2000-bay Accra Airport car park and hotel

President John Dramani Mahama is expected to cut the sod on Thursday, August 27, 2026, for a multi-storey car park and airport hotel complex at the Accra International Airport.
The project will include a seven-storey car park with more than 2,000 parking bays, two hotels, a pedestrian connection to the terminal building, a shopping mall with a food court, retail space and offices for rent.
It will also have a sky lounge and an observation deck overlooking aircraft landings and take-offs.
The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, announced the planned sod-cutting on Tuesday.
He explained the project involves a 7-storey carpark, two hotels, a pedestrian connector to the terminal, a 2000+ Carpark bays, a shopping mall with food court, retail spaces and office spaces for rental, a sky lounge for entertainment and a sky observatory for aircraft viewings - landings and take-offs
The Managing Director of the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL), Mrs Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, had earlier told Parliament's Committee on Roads and Transportation that the existing Terminal 3 car park, with space for only 513 vehicles, was insufficient for current passenger numbers.
She said the contractor for the new facility had already begun mobilising to site.
The project is expected to be completed within 24 months and is being financed through the Airport Infrastructure Development Charge, a levy on departing passengers which took effect in April 2026.
