Russia to IAEA: Condemn the murder of the chief engineer of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant
Ukraine's goal is to prevent the operation of the nuclear plant and force the staff to abandon their jobs
Russia called on the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, to condemn the death of the chief engineer of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, Alexander Yakovlev, in a Ukrainian drone attack.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that the IAEA and international organizations must clearly take a stance on the incident.
"This crime of the Kyiv regime must finally be seen by Grossi. We demand from the relevant international structures, and especially from the IAEA, a clear statement condemning this murder," she said.
According to Rosatom head Alexei Likhachev, Alexander Yakovlev was killed on the afternoon of July 15, when, as the Russian side claims, a Ukrainian drone struck his official vehicle. The driver of the vehicle also lost his life in the attack.
Meanwhile, regional governor Yevgeny Balitsky argued that Ukraine's goal is to prevent the operation of the nuclear plant and force the staff to abandon their jobs. He stated that for this reason, attacks are carried out against energy facilities, civilian vehicles, and social infrastructure.
