An explosion occurred on Tuesday, June 9, at 5:30 AM in the Moscow suburb of Balashikha, resulting in the death of a high-ranking Russian army officer, according to information published by international media.
The victim was identified by the independent publication The Insider as Damir Davydov, an official from the logistics structure of the Russian army, writes Kyiv Post.
Davydov was active in the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate, the institution responsible for supplying missile and artillery ammunition. According to available information, he coordinated arms flows destined for the front.
The explosion occurred when his car, a BMW X3, was near a residential building. In the first hours after the incident, contradictory information emerged, with some sources initially indicating that the target could have been Alexander Maksimtsev, an officer from the Russian Aerospace Forces, a version that was later not confirmed.
Russian authorities confirmed the explosion and opened a criminal investigation, initially without providing details about the victim's identity, which generated speculation in unofficial media and on Telegram channels.
The area where the attack took place is known for the presence of military personnel and their families, with the neighborhoods of Balashikha traditionally developed for Ministry of Defense staff, as well as for veterans and retirees.
The case is being analyzed in the context of a similar incident that occurred in the same area over a year ago, when Yaroslav Moskalik was killed in an almost identical explosion. According to available data, this is the fourth case of a lieutenant general-rank officer killed on Russian territory since the beginning of the large-scale invasion of Ukraine.
To date, there is no public information indicating Ukraine's involvement in this incident, and the Kyiv authorities have not commented on the situation. The investigation is ongoing under the coordination of Russian security structures, including the FSB.
