Already this year, a surgical robot was successfully implemented at the UK Krems. Now, the installation at the Landesklinikum Mistelbach-Gänserndorf follows. This marks an important milestone that strengthens medical care in the state, according to the state health agency.
Based on the Health Plan 2040+ and the associated development, robot-assisted surgery is being systematically expanded at the university and state hospitals. Surgical robots are already in successful use at the university hospitals in Wiener Neustadt, St. Pölten, and Krems. Since their introduction, around 5,000 robot-assisted procedures have been performed at the Wiener Neustadt and St. Pölten sites, and around 30 at the University Hospital Krems since its introduction.
Now the next step
Now, as the next step, a surgical robot has been installed at the Landesklinikum Mistelbach-Gänserndorf at the Mistelbach hospital site to bring state-of-the-art and best possible treatment methods to the Weinviertel region. For patients, this means above all increased safety, highest precision, and a faster return to everyday life.
"The establishment of the new surgical robot at the Landesklinikum Mistelbach-Gänserndorf is another step towards the full expansion of robot-assisted surgery in all regions. This development in modern medicine benefits everyone: On the one hand, the best possible primary and acute care for our patients through precise, safe, and gentle treatment methods; on the other hand, we also increase the attractiveness of our clinic sites as training and work locations for young doctors," emphasizes Provincial Councillor Anton Kasser, who is responsible for the clinics.
Robot-assisted surgery is a modern surgical method in which doctors are supported by a special robot system. The surgeon controls the instruments via a console, and the robot executes the movements precisely and steadily. Especially in complex tumor operations or reconstructive procedures, robot-assisted surgery allows for very precise, controlled work, even in anatomically difficult areas.
"Particularly precise movements"
"The robot-assisted systems enable particularly precise movements, high-resolution 3D visualization, and particularly gentle treatment of tissue. For patients, this results in many advantages. This method leads to lower complication rates, reduced blood loss, less pain after surgery, and overall faster recovery," add the Medical Director of the Landesklinikum Ronald Zwrtek and project leader Florian Wimpissinger.
This technology will initially be used at the Landesklinikum Mistelbach in urology, general and visceral surgery, and gynecology, especially in oncological procedures.
The Head of Medicine and Nursing of the Lower Austrian State Health Agency, Elisabeth Bräutigam, states: "The introduction of these new technologies benefits our employees, as they receive the best possible training on state-of-the-art equipment. These improved framework conditions not only increase the quality of surgical care but also make an important contribution to the attractiveness of the profession. They are thus an essential factor in attracting qualified specialists, retaining them in the long term, and sustainably strengthening the healthcare locations."
