Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rammohan has called upon citizens to make cleanliness a part of their daily lives and work collectively to make the city cleaner and healthier.
As part of the State government’s Swarna Andhra–Swachh Andhra programme, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) organised sanitation awareness programmes at several locations in the city on Saturday. Programmes were held at Kalara Hospital under Circle-I, AKTPM School under Circle-II and Govindarajulu Municipal High School at Patamata under Circle-III.
Addressing the programme at Govindarajulu Municipal High School, Rammohan said maintaining clean surroundings is responsibility of every citizen. He urged residents to segregate wet and dry waste at source, avoid single-use plastics and dispose of garbage only at designated places.
Keeping roads, drains, parks, water bodies and other public places clean would help prevent diseases and create a healthier environment, he said. VMC Additional Commissioner Dr D Chandrasekhar said door-to-door surveys would be conducted across all wards to create awareness about sanitation, waste segregation and scientific waste management. Details of hotels, hospitals, educational institutions, apartments and commercial establishments would also be collected and geo-tagged, he said.
Former corporator Mummineni Venkata Prasad, Chief Engineer P Satyakumari, Zonal Commissioners K Shammi, K Prabhudas and N Srinivas, and other officials participated.
