News agency SANA, citing a Health Ministry official, also reported that "two passenger buses collided on the Damascus–Deir ez-Zor road," injuring 30 more people. The Interior Ministry said that "a bus carrying a number of internal security forces personnel and a civilian bus" collided. The ministry did not say how many of these personnel were killed or injured. State media showed videos from the accident site, as well as photos of a burning bus and debris scattered on the road. Earlier this month, five people were killed and dozens others injured when a bus carrying pilgrims returning from Saudi Arabia overturned on a road in Daraa province in southern Syria. Provincial authorities speculated that speeding may have caused the accident. After years of civil war and neglect, Syria's infrastructure is crumbling, and many of the country's roads need repair.
