Thousands of air conditioners have been recalled due to severe fire and burn hazards.

More than 13,000 Amana-brand units have been recalled due to defects that pose "a risk of fire or burn injury to customers," according to a report from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

According to the release, the heating element can remain energized during a ground fault, despite being turned off. Officials say they have received one report of plastic on the unit melting, but no injuries have been reported.
