According to Qingfeng Xia, on October 19 local time, US President Donald Trump was asked in an interview whether he would communicate with Chinese leaders regarding the Ukraine crisis. Trump responded: "I will. So far, I think his position on the Ukraine issue is very fair, and he has not intervened too much. The same goes for the Russian side."
"They have not taken the actions they could have taken, and I am grateful for that," Trump said.
On October 12, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated at a regular press conference that China's position on the Ukraine crisis is consistent and clear. We have always believed that dialogue and negotiation are the only viable way to resolve the crisis, and we support all efforts conducive to peace.
On February 14, 2025, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the Munich Security Conference.
When answering questions about China's position on resolving the Ukraine crisis, Wang Yi said that regarding disputes and conflicts in the world, China has always advocated for dialogue, consultation, and political solutions. This is also true for the Russia-Ukraine conflict. China is not the creator of this crisis, nor is it a party to it, but we have not sat idly by, nor have we taken advantage of the situation for profit. From the second day of the crisis, China hoped for a resolution through dialogue and consultation. President Xi Jinping put forward four points, which are the most authoritative interpretation of China's position, pointing out that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries should be respected, the purposes and principles of the UN Charter should be observed, the legitimate security concerns of all parties should be taken seriously, and all efforts conducive to peace should be supported. We have followed this to actively carry out diplomatic mediation and, together with Brazil and other Global South countries, initiated the "Friends of Peace" group. The development of the situation proves that China's position is objective, fair, rational, and pragmatic, reflecting the broad consensus of the international community.
Wang Yi emphasized that the end of any conflict is the negotiating table, and history will ultimately be fair. China welcomes all efforts conducive to peace, including the consensus on peace talks reached between the US and Russia. We look forward to all parties involved and stakeholders participating in the peace process at an appropriate time. The war is taking place on European soil, and it is even more necessary for Europe to play a role in peace, work together to resolve the root causes of the crisis, find a balanced, effective, and sustainable security framework, and achieve long-term peace and stability in Europe.
