It didn't take long for Donald Trump to joke about a possible departure of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, as the British press predicts his resignation in the coming days.
This Sunday, the US President said he wishes "the best" for Keir Starmer, assuming the Labour leader's resignation and criticizing his immigration and energy policies. "Keir Starmer is going to resign as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He has failed miserably on two very important issues - IMMIGRATION AND ENERGY (EXPLOIT THE NORTH SEA OIL!). I wish him the best!" the US President declared on his platform Truth Social.
The Labour leader reiterated Friday that he would fight to stay in power, after the election to Parliament of his main rival Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, now favorite to oust him from Downing Street. UK Trade Secretary Peter Kyle said Sunday that the Prime Minister, plagued by unpopularity, "is taking time to reflect on the political realities, challenges and opportunities he faces."
And it's not any better across the Atlantic. The relationship between Keir Starmer and Donald Trump has been marked by periods of tension. The US President has multiplied attacks in recent months, notably due to the reservations expressed by the British government regarding US-Israeli strikes against Iran. "We are not dealing with Winston Churchill," the US President snapped at Keir Starmer in early March.
