A planning application has been approved by Westmorland and Furness Council for an electric vehicle (EV) charge point at a terraced home in Askam-in-Furness.

The charger will be installed at 18 Stafford Street as part of the council’s EV Pavement Channel Trial.

The approved model is a Zappi 7kW tethered charger, which will be mounted on the west-facing wall of the property.

Planning permission was required because the unit is less than two metres from the highway.

No objections were received during public consultation, and Askam and Ireleth Parish Council raised no objections.

They noted it was the first application of this kind they had seen and that more are likely to follow as EV uptake grows.

The county highways authority did not object, confirming that highway and drainage matters could be dealt with under existing arrangements.

In their report, planning officers said the modest, wall-mounted charger would not be "visually intrusive" and would not affect the privacy or daylight of neighbouring properties.

The charger must be installed within three years in compliance with the approved plans.
