Four years after Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, the conflict in Ukraine persists. Russia currently occupies approximately 20 percent of Ukrainian territory, having gained around five thousand square kilometers in 2025. Both sides continue military operations, with Russia reportedly bombarding Ukrainian cities and Ukraine conducting drone attacks on Russian oil infrastructure and military sites.
Since January 2022, Ukraine has received substantial financial assistance from international partners. The United States has provided approximately $188 billion in aid, while the European Union has contributed around $197 billion. This aid is directed towards supporting Ukraine's defense and addressing the conflict's widespread consequences.
The war has resulted in significant humanitarian challenges. Nearly 56,000 civilian casualties have been recorded, with 3.7 million people internally displaced and 5.9 million registered as refugees. Additionally, 10.8 million people require humanitarian assistance, highlighting the severe impact on the civilian population and the ongoing need for support.
