Representatives of the United States of America and Iran held the first round of negotiations in Switzerland. After that, the sides stated "encouraging progress".

According to a joint statement from mediators from Pakistan and Qatar, the US-Iran talks took place in a "positive and constructive atmosphere". The results of the meeting were reported by CNN.

The mediators stated that the US and Iran agreed to "create a High-Level Committee to ensure political oversight of the mediation process." The main representatives of the negotiating parties will report regularly to the High-Level Committee and lead working groups on nuclear issues and sanctions. They will also lead a monitoring and dispute resolution group for effective implementation of agreements.

The Committee "agreed on a 'road map' to reach a final agreement within 60 days." The mediators stated that technical negotiations covering "all issues" will continue in Switzerland and will last until the end of this week.

The US and Iran also reached an agreement to create a "conflict resolution group" with the participation of Lebanon and mediated by Qatar and Pakistan. The group is intended to ensure a cessation of hostilities in Lebanon.

As a result of the talks, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi said that sanctions on his country's oil had been lifted and some frozen assets abroad were unfrozen. He also announced the start of a "large-scale plan for the reconstruction and development of Iran."

The publication notes that despite such results of diplomatic efforts, just a few hours earlier Iranian media wrote that the talks had "reached an impasse" after threats from Donald Trump. Earlier, the US President threatened to bomb all of Iran in case of failure.

Recall that on June 19, Bild reported that Iran had again blocked the Strait of Hormuz and was firing at ships.
