A green box truck is stopped immediately behind the ute, while another damaged car has left the road and come to rest in roadside bushes.
A Hato Hone St John spokesman said two patients were taken to North Shore Hospital in a moderate condition.
Another two people with minor injuries did not require hospital treatment.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand shift manager said two fire trucks were sent and no one was trapped.
Meanwhile, further down the North Island, another truck has been involved in a crash.
NZTA warned online State Highway 28 at Te Poi, Waikato was blocked in both directions after a logging truck rolled.
The incident happened about 5pm near the intersection with Brown Rd.
“Follow the directions of emergency services and use an alternative route if possible,” NZTA advised.
