Rain has returned to Paraná this Friday, June 19. A cold front arrived in the state at dawn this Friday and crosses Paraná until Saturday, June 20. After a break in the rain between late Saturday and Sunday, June 21, Simepar (Paraná Environmental Technology and Monitoring System) is already monitoring the approach of a new cold front starting Monday, June 22. A cold air mass behind it will bring new record low temperatures to the state next week.

The first areas of instability reached the West and Southwest, with rain, lightning, and wind gusts shortly after 6 a.m. By 10 a.m., Foz do Iguaçu had already recorded 6.4 mm of rain and wind gusts of 52.6 km/h. São Miguel do Iguaçu recorded 5 mm of rain.

"Throughout the day, the system moves across the interior of Paraná. Between Friday night and early Saturday, rain reaches the North, the Campos Gerais, the Curitiba Metropolitan Region, and the coast. On Saturday, instability persists over the eastern strip and Campos Gerais, while in the West the weather is already improving," emphasizes Raissa Pimentel, meteorologist at Simepar.

The trend is that, by the end of Saturday, the cold front will move out to the ocean. Thus, the rain ends and the sun predominates from Sunday across Paraná. Maximum temperatures, however, do not rise much due to the presence of a cold and dry air mass. On Saturday, temperatures do not exceed 20°C in the state, and on Sunday they are slightly above that, especially in the Northwest.

Starting Monday (22), Simepar monitors the approach of the first winter cold front. The new season begins at 5:24 a.m. on Sunday. On Monday, rain is forecast across all regions of the state, and from Tuesday (23) temperatures will gradually decline. Between Wednesday (24) and Thursday (25), record low temperatures are expected in much of Paraná, with frost mainly in cities in the southern half.

Despite the cold wave at the start of the season, Simepar's climate forecast indicates that by the end of winter, temperatures and rainfall volumes will be above the historical average.
