Woman Evicted from Home Because She Fed Cats in Front of Building
An 80-year-old woman from Ruse is facing the threat of being left homeless after half a century of living in the same home. Her relatives claim that the reason for the forced eviction is a neighbor dispute caused by feeding stray dogs and cats in front of the building.
Notice after Half a Century
Mariyka Stoyanova has lived at 10 Alia Detelina Street for more than 50 years. The apartment is owned by the insolvent company 'Zahar Bio' AD. On July 10, 2026, the family received an official notice of unilateral termination of the lease agreement. The official document stipulates a three-month period within which the elderly woman must vacate the property and hand over actual possession. In one of the photos sent to the newsroom, the visibly distressed pensioner is seen reading the eviction notice served to her.
Conflict Over Stray Animals
The daughter of the affected woman, Svetlana Draganova, who lives and works in Italy, explains that the lease contract was transferred to her name. According to her account, the problems began after disputes with an employee who uses an adjacent room as the company's local office.
My mother started being harassed by Stoyanka Petrova. The reason for the conflict is that my mother feeds the stray animals in front of her home, Draganova explains. According to her, the employee repeatedly threatened to report the old woman's actions to the company's receiver.
Conversation with the Receiver
The receiver of 'Zahar Bio' AD, Georgi Cholakov, is the official who signed the termination document in Sofia. Svetlana Draganova claims she personally contacted him by phone to seek an explanation for the sudden eviction of her mother.
According to the daughter, during the conversation the receiver directly stated that the 80-year-old woman should not have fed the stray animals and that she would now have to leave her home. He even added that the family should be grateful for the three-month grace period provided, which, according to the contract, could have been significantly shorter.
The family insists that the competent authorities conduct a full and impartial investigation of the case, as they suspect that the real goal is to free up the property so it can be provided to other people.
