Airbus Helicopters has inaugurated this Wednesday in Albacete its new technological center Digital Campus, a cutting-edge space aimed at boosting digitalization and innovation in the aerospace and defense sector. The president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García Page, presided over the event alongside company executives, in a gesture that reinforces the European giant's commitment to technological decentralization in Spain.
A hub of innovation in the center of the peninsula
The facility, located in the Science and Technology Park of Albacete, will house simulation laboratories, virtual prototyping, and data centers for the development of helicopters and unmanned systems. The Digital Campus is part of Airbus Helicopters' strategy to integrate technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and additive manufacturing into its design and production processes.
According to company sources, the center will employ more than one hundred engineers and specialists, most of them from the region. The Airbus factory in Albacete, dedicated to manufacturing helicopter components, is one of the group's most important in Southern Europe.
Boost to the defense industry
The inauguration comes at a time of growing investment in military capabilities by European countries. Spain, through the Ministry of Defense, has maintained contracts with Airbus for the modernization of its helicopter fleets. The Digital Campus aims to become a benchmark in cybersecurity and autonomous systems, key areas for future defense.
García Page highlighted during the event that the arrival of this center "consolidates Castilla-La Mancha as a first-tier industrial hub" and represents support for the regional government's reindustrialization policy. The regional president also emphasized public-private collaboration as a driver of technological development.
