Cathay Pacific will launch direct flights between Almaty and Hong Kong on Jan. 9, 2027, establishing the first direct air link between Kazakhstan and Hong Kong and expanding connections between Central Asia and the carrier’s global network.

The airline will operate the route three times a week using wide-body Airbus A330-300 aircraft. The launch is also expected to strengthen connectivity between Hong Kong and countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative, according to the airline.
“Cathay Pacific is committed to strengthening connectivity between Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland and the rest of the world,” said Rakesh Raicar, the airline’s regional general manager for South Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
He said the carrier’s network would provide travelers from Kazakhstan with convenient onward connections while also improving access to Kazakhstan for international travelers.
The new route will also provide additional cargo capacity in the belly holds of passenger aircraft. Through the Cathay Cargo network, this could support trade flows between Kazakhstan, Hong Kong and other international markets by expanding access to key trade routes and cargo connections.
