Final energy consumption in the services sector of the European Union rose by 1.7% in 2024 to reach 4,971 petajoules, driven by increased activity in trade, health and hospitality. Meanwhile, electricity and natural gas maintained their position as the sector's main energy sources. The services sector still accounts for more than an eighth of energy consumption in the EU, with electricity and natural gas continuing to dominate, while wholesale and retail trade tops the list of energy-consuming activities within the sector.
