WARTAKOTALIVE.COM, JAKARTA – Member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Oleh Soleh, urged the Ministry of Defense (Kemhan) to temporarily suspend the implementation of Basic Military Training (Latsarmil) for participants of the 2026 Indonesian Development Driver Graduate Program (SPPI).
This demand was made following the increase in the number of participants who died during the training to five people.
According to Oleh, the incident cannot be considered an ordinary occurrence and must serve as a wake-up call for the government to conduct a thorough evaluation of the program's implementation.
"Do not take lightly the lives of those who died. Therefore, I urge the Ministry of Defense to temporarily suspend the implementation of Latsarmil and conduct a thorough evaluation of the program," Oleh said to reporters on Sunday (June 28, 2026).
The latest victim is known to be Nola Dya Sari, who was undergoing training at the Kalimantan State Defense Training Unit (Dodik Bela Negara Kalimantan).
Previously, four other participants who died were Yonanda Muhammad Taufiq on June 17, 2026, Hanisha Musyarrafah on June 18, 2026, Novia Ramadhani Sihotang on June 23, 2026, and Muhammad Rifqi Renaldi Gunawan on June 26, 2026.
Oleh assessed that the participants are young people who registered to contribute to village economic development through the Red and White Village Cooperative (Kopdes Merah Putih) program.
"They are the nation's children who are striving to support the success of the Kopdes Merah Putih program by registering as manager candidates. Therefore, every incident that results in loss of life must be taken seriously and cannot be considered ordinary," he said.
The PKB politician also highlighted the training pattern applied to participants who come from civilian backgrounds.
According to him, physical training should not be equated with military education because the physical abilities of participants differ from those of soldiers.
"There must be a total evaluation and improvement of the guidance and training patterns provided. They are civilians, so the physical training should not be too heavy. They are not soldiers, and of course their physical abilities are not the same as soldiers who have undergone military education," he emphasized.
He added that the main goal of the SPPI and Kopdes Merah Putih programs is to produce human resources capable of managing cooperatives and driving village economies.
Therefore, the safety aspect of participants must be a priority in every stage of program implementation.
Oleh also asked the Ministry of Defense to transparently disclose the causes of the participants' deaths while ensuring corrective measures so that similar incidents do not recur.
