Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Nadiem Makarim's mother, Atika Algadrie, hopes that her son will be fully acquitted in the sentencing hearing held at the Central Jakarta District Court. Nevertheless, she has strengthened her heart and mind in facing the verdict.
It is known that the former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Mendikbudristek) Nadiem Makarim is scheduled to undergo a sentencing hearing on Tuesday (30/6) in the alleged corruption case involving the procurement of Chromebook laptops.
"Full acquittal, that's the hope. Nothing else," Atika told reporters while attending the hearing.
Although she hopes that her son will be acquitted, she still has her own concerns.
"Concerns are always there, but our hope is for full acquittal," she said.
Nevertheless, she admitted that she is prepared to wait for the verdict that will be handed down by the panel of judges to her son.
"For eight months, we have prepared ourselves, strengthened our hearts and minds, and hoped for prayers that the judges will give the best verdict," she concluded.
It is known that the former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Mendikbudristek) Nadiem Makarim is scheduled to undergo a sentencing hearing on Tuesday (30/6) in the alleged corruption case involving the procurement of Chromebook laptops. In this case, the public prosecutor (JPU) demanded Nadiem be sentenced to 18 years in prison, a fine of Rp 1 billion, subsidiary to 190 days of imprisonment.
In addition, the prosecutor also demanded the payment of restitution amounting to Rp 5.6 trillion. If not paid, Nadiem faces an additional 9 years in prison, bringing the total potential sentence to 27 years.
Responding to the demands, Nadiem Makarim argued that all the prosecutor's allegations had been refuted during the trial process. He even believes that the panel of judges should be able to hand down an acquittal.
"Because if we look at all the trial facts, if just one of the four elements in the Corruption Crime is not proven, the defendant must be acquitted, fully acquitted!" Nadiem asserted in the trial on June 9, 2026.
