NASH, Texas - Major construction will soon be underway at the Interstate 30 and Kings Highway interchange.
As the new traffic changes take place, some business owners are hoping customers won't let construction keep them away.
Over the next 19 months, TXDOT crews will be replacing the Kings Highway bridge at I-30 and extending closures to the area.
“We're not looking forward to it at all. It's been a headache since it's been announced, so we'll see,” said Sam Shaib, Texas Best Smokehouse store owner.
Shaib said he is concerned that the upcoming traffic disruptions could hurt business and reduce revenue.
“I would assume a lot of people will try to avoid it, especially when you start looking at the G.P.S. and it's telling you all of this construction,” said Shaib.
Shaib said business dropped about 70% when construction crews closed the exit to his other store off I-30 in New Boston.
“There's always issues with people rerouting to I-30, that’s been happening for a while. I just really hope that they can finish it faster,” said Shaib.
TXDOT engineer Juan Gomez says motorists should expect delays with the new traffic pattern in Nash.
“We have signs out there instructing traffic where to go. So, we ask that we follow those and just be cautious when driving through our detours,” said Gomez.
The Kings Highway bridge over I-30 will be closed.
All I-30 traffic through the construction zone will be diverted to the frontage roads using designated exit and entrance ramps to bypass the work.
“The goal is to provide extra mobility for our area so this new bridge will be wider and taller to allow for more clearance for our interstate system, as well as providing additional capacity for Kings Highway,” said Gomez.
