Putin Admits Fuel Shortage in Russia, Ukrainian Attacks Also Cause Problems in Crimea

Russian President Says Situation Not Critical, But Moscow Strengthens Air Defense and Addresses Supply Disruptions

russia_putin_4_43_ 676x451 June 29, 2026 (SITA.sk) - The Russian president says the situation is not critical, but Moscow is strengthening air defense and addressing supply disruptions.

Russian President Vladimir Putin admitted that Ukraine's attacks on energy and logistics infrastructure are causing problems for Russia, including a shortage of fuels.

In an interview published by the Kremlin on Sunday, he said the situation is not yet critical, but Moscow must ensure stable fuel supplies and strengthen air defense.

"Regarding attacks on critical infrastructure in general and energy infrastructure in particular, these attacks on our facilities, of course, cause problems. That is obvious," Putin said. "Right now we are seeing a certain shortage, but it is not critical," he added.

Problems in Crimea

Russian authorities in the annexed Crimea declared a state of emergency on Friday due to fuel shortages and power outages caused by Ukrainian attacks on logistics routes and oil facilities. Russia annexed Crimea in 2014, a move not recognized by most countries.

At the congress of the United Russia party, Putin also promised that Moscow would ensure the country's security and overcome the problems caused by more intense Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory.

"We see these problems, we are aware of them and we are responding to them, but we will certainly ensure the security of the country, our citizens and the inviolability of Russian borders," he declared.

Ukraine Defends Itself

The Russian president's remarks came after a series of Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil facilities. In the Krasnodar region, a drone attack killed one person and caused a fire at a refinery.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the goal of such operations is to weaken Russia's ability to wage war. Last week, another attack sparked a large fire at a refinery southeast of Moscow.
