In the so-called Deep Tech sector, based on advanced scientific and engineering discoveries, the country invests more venture capital per capita than all other European states.

With $1,470 (1,170 francs), the Confederation climbs the global podium, surpassed only by Israel and the United States, according to a study published today by the associations Deep Tech Nation Switzerland and the companies Founderful, Kickfund, Startupticker.ch, and Dealroom.co.

The research reveals that since 2015, the volume of investments in the sector has quintupled, reaching $2.6 billion. A full 63% of the total national venture capital is absorbed by deep technologies, demonstrating how innovation is now the central engine of the Swiss economy.

Switzerland confirms itself as a center of excellence for artificial intelligence, robotics, and quantum computing, driven by world-renowned universities such as the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology in Zurich and Lausanne. The academic ecosystem proves to be an inexhaustible breeding ground for talent and startups, capable of transforming basic research into concrete commercial applications.

The report, however, also highlights a structural criticality. The vast majority of the capital needed to grow young companies comes from abroad: large financings exceeding $100 million come 88% from across the border, compared to a European average of 75%.

According to the authors of the research, Swiss institutional investors, starting with pension funds, remain substantially absent in the growth phase of technology companies.
