The BC (Central Bank) removed the limit of R$500 per day for transactions made with Pix by proximity, and users can set other maximum values for payments.
This modality allows payments without having to open the bank app. With the feature, customers do not need to scan the machine's QR Code or ask for the recipient's key. To complete the payment, you need to bring your cell phone or digital watch near the payment machine. The payment method is similar to that used with payment cards.

Normative Instruction 746, published on Tuesday (16), applies to proximity transfers initiated inside or outside banking apps. Thus, transactions made through digital wallets are also subject to the general Pix rules.
To use apps such as Google Pay and Samsung Wallet, the user must link a bank account compatible with the Central Bank's open finance system and enable Pix on the bank's platform.
Only Android device users can use Pix by proximity. On Apple devices, the use of NFC payment technology necessarily goes through the Apple Pay system. Since the platform charges per transaction, and Pix is a free tool, financial institutions have not released the feature to iPhone owners.
When Pix by proximity emerged, in February 2025, Apple did not ask the BC for authorization to become a payment initiator.
In March this year, CADE (Administrative Council for Economic Defense) opened an investigation against the big tech to investigate alleged abuse of dominant position in the proximity payment market.
On June 8, Google told the watchdog that it does not charge fees from digital wallet and banking app developers. According to the company, access to the NFC antenna on Android devices is free.
