Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said that the Strait of Hormuz, during the Middle East conflict, has turned into "Persian nuclear weapons." Medvedev suggested that in the future the strait will continue to be used accordingly.

Medvedev published his comment in his messenger.

The escalation of the conflict between Israel and the US on one side and Iran and the Lebanese movement Hezbollah on the other continued from February 28. Soon Iran effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz, leading to a sharp rise in energy prices. Iran's Supreme Leader said that Iran needs to use the blocking opportunity as a leverage.

During the escalation, Iran repeatedly attacked Israel, as well as many Middle Eastern countries, including Bahrain, Jordan, Iraq, Qatar, Kuwait, UAE, Oman, and Saudi Arabia. Iranian authorities claimed that the targets were US military bases. They also denied that Turkey was attacked. Middle Eastern states criticized Iran's actions. In particular, the UAE closed its embassy in the country and recalled its ambassador, and Saudi Arabia threatened Iran with retaliatory strikes.
