A diplomatic source in Beirut warned via "Nidaa al-Watan" of the danger of being drawn into an attempt led by Hezbollah, with cover from internal parties, to pass the sixty-day period allocated for US-Iranian negotiations without starting the implementation of the first phase of the "framework formula" in its military and security aspect, which begins with the Israeli withdrawal from the model areas, followed by an actual deployment of the Lebanese army and the cleansing of those areas of weapons and gunmen, considering that this step constitutes the first test of the seriousness of implementing the understandings.
The source explained that "field data and available reports, along with declared positions, confirm that Hezbollah is practically obstructing the launch of the implementation of the first phase in the model areas, and this behavior intersects with the Israeli interest that seeks any pretext to evade its obligations under the 'framework formula.' What increases the danger of the scene is the presence of internal alignment with this obstruction under the pretext of avoiding confrontation with the residents, which negatively affects the chances of launching the implementation path and threatens to empty the agreement of its content."
The source pointed out that "Lebanon is currently benefiting from an unprecedented level of American support and clear adoption of the Lebanese agenda, but the continuation of obstruction under pretexts of inability or avoiding strife may lead to the loss of this cover in the coming months."
The source noted that "betting on the Islamabad track as an alternative to implementing field commitments will only lead to dragging Lebanon into a new crisis whose repercussions will be more dangerous at the political and security levels."
