At least two dead and four wounded in Israeli attack on Beirut's southern suburbs
At least two people were killed and four others wounded on Sunday in an Israeli attack on an area of the southern suburbs of Beirut, known as Dahye, amid negotiations between the United States and Iran to reach a peace agreement whose signing was announced as imminent.
The Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) reported the deaths of two people and four wounded, whom it did not identify, in an Israeli airstrike on the municipality of Al Ghobeiry, in Mount Lebanon province, on the same day that a Qatari delegation traveled to Tehran to push for the signing of the agreement.
"The attack on the apartment in Al Ghobeiry left, according to a new count, two martyrs and four wounded," the NNA briefly reported in a second statement on the preliminary casualty count of the Israeli attack.
The Israeli army reported on Sunday that it had attacked targets of the Shia group Hezbollah in Dahye, according to a statement released by the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Attack after the launch of three projectiles from Lebanon
The bombing of Dahye, a suburb on the outskirts of the Lebanese capital considered a Hezbollah stronghold, comes after the Israeli army reported on Sunday that three projectiles launched from Lebanon had fallen in Israeli communities near the border and ordered the evacuation of more than ten towns in southern Lebanon.
After issuing these evacuation orders this morning, Israel attacked the house of the former mayor of Douei.
This crossfire takes place parallel to the arrival of a Qatari delegation to the Iranian capital, Tehran, to push for the peace agreement between Iran and the US, whose signing seems imminent, according to Iranian media.
Qatar, along with Pakistan, is one of the mediators between Iran and the United States to reach a peace agreement, which indications suggest will be signed soon, although the exact date is unknown and whether it will include a cessation of Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
US President Donald Trump announced yesterday that today, Sunday, the agreement with Iran will be signed to end the war, which will allow the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. EFE
