Micron Technology ahead of quarterly results: After the all-time high on Monday, the setback followed on Tuesday. What the options market signals, what analysts expect, and why the MU stock is still in an uptrend.
All-time high on Monday, price slump on Tuesday, quarterly results on Wednesday. Anyone holding Micron Technology in their portfolio this week is experiencing the stock market in concentrated form. And those who don't have it yet may be watching all the more closely for that very reason. Because one thing is certain: suspense is guaranteed, and further strong price movements are likely.

SOX, AI Infrastructure, and Records to Start the Week
The PHLX Semiconductor Sector Index (SOX) is currently perhaps the price barometer that, driven by the AI boom, is particularly in focus for investors. It bundles the prominence of the semiconductor sector, whose technologies are currently in high demand because they are needed for building and expanding AI infrastructure.

Alongside giants like chip designer NVIDIA or contract manufacturer Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, memory chip maker Micron Technology (ISIN: US5951121038, Symbol: MU) has now joined the club of companies with market capitalizations of over $1 trillion. At the start of the week, the MU stock, like the sector index SOX, had marked a new all-time high. The background to Micron Technology's strong run in recent months can be found in the article: "One Trillion Dollars Worth and Still a Bargain?"
Profit-Taking After All-Time High: How Stable Is the Uptrend?
But after the strong start to the week with new price records, the SOX and the MU stock lost ground more clearly on Tuesday. The losses had already begun in Asia: South Korean AI beneficiaries such as SK hynix or Samsung Electronics declined significantly, causing the leading index KOSPI to fall by more than 10 percent due to their heavy weighting. This development likely reflects increasing nervousness that also spilled over into semiconductor stocks listed on US exchanges. The business figures from Micron Technology expected today after the US market close may have additionally prompted some profit-taking.
Given the enormous price gains in the recent past, this is not surprising. The MU stock had gained almost 240 percent in 2025. In the current year 2026, the rally continued, and up to the all-time high on Monday, the increase was around 325 percent. After the losses on Tuesday, it is about 269 percent. Thus, Micron Technology remains one of the top performers in the S&P 500 and NASDAQ-100 in 2026. And the chart technical picture is still constructive. There have been larger corrections from time to time in recent months, without breaking the uptrend. It remains intact.
What the Quarterly Report Must Now Deliver
The exciting question, however, is how the MU stock price will react to the quarterly report published today. It's not just about whether revenue and earnings estimates can be achieved. The outlook will also be analyzed closely. Given the high growth rates already priced in, even small hints of slowing momentum could fuel further profit-taking.
Should the management of Micron Technology succeed in continuing to convince the market that the accelerated demand for AI solutions in recent months shows no signs of weakness, a continuation of the uptrend is conceivable.
That demand for the company's technologies remains strong was shown by the collaboration with AI provider Anthropic announced on Monday. The two companies plan to jointly develop memory and infrastructure solutions specifically tailored to the requirements of AI workloads. Micron's HBM, DRAM, and SSD products will be used, optimized for performance, energy efficiency, and total cost of ownership in training and inference. Additionally, Micron will become Anthropic's preferred memory and storage component supplier. Tom Brown, co-founder and Chief Compute Officer at Anthropic, stated: "Our compute strategy depends on getting every layer of the stack right, and memory is central to how efficiently we can train and run Claude."
That this cooperation is more than a supply contract is evident from another detail: Micron had already participated in Anthropic's Series H financing round. This round reached a volume of $65 billion in May 2026 and valued Anthropic at nearly $965 billion. Alongside Micron, memory chip competitors Samsung and SK hynix also participated as strategic infrastructure partners. A familiar pattern.
AI Boom with Dotcom Vibes: When Will the Cycle Tip?
Because manufacturers of AI technologies are increasingly buying into AI providers as well. What seems positive at first glance can also be viewed critically upon closer inspection. When a supplier invests billions in its own customers, who then use that capital to purchase its products, a circular revenue loop is created whose stability depends on sustained demand growth. This creates a structural problem that has occurred before during the dotcom bubble. At the time, that was considered an indication of a bubble forming, which eventually burst and led to a bear market on the stock exchange.
It is therefore not surprising that parallels are drawn to today's AI boom. The risks are clearly on the table. As long as demand for AI infrastructure grows, the cycle works. But if it is disrupted even slightly, a downward spiral threatens. Declining revenues at AI providers then directly impact the balance sheets of their suppliers, who are also investors. The stock market will not remain indifferent. But it's not there yet. When a comparable price debacle will occur, and whether at all, remains open.

What the Options Market Reveals About the Expected Price Movement
It is equally open how the price reaction will turn out following the upcoming quarterly figures from Micron Technology. A look at the options market provides an indication of the expected fluctuation by the end of the week. Based on the current price of around $1,052, from the options prices expiring on Friday, a movement of around $135 can currently be derived, giving a range of $915 on the downside and $1,187 on the upside. That would correspond to swings of around 13 percent. Although these are only approximate values that do not constitute predictions, they show that another strong price impulse can be expected. However, the direction is uncertain.
But perhaps statistics help: Since the beginning of 2025, Micron has beaten forecasts for both revenue and earnings per share in 100 percent of cases. This time, average expectations are for revenue of $35.25 billion and EPS of $20.28. That would represent increases of 279 percent and roughly 1,100 percent compared to the same period last year. But even if Micron can meet these expectations, the truth is that this does not necessarily have to lead to rising prices. After the last quarterly figures in March, the stock fell by more than 30 percent. In hindsight, that turned out to be a good entry opportunity. The answer to the question of whether that could repeat itself will be provided by the market this evening.
