The United States celebrated the decision of Delcy Rodríguez, interim president of Venezuela, to withdraw her country from the International Criminal Court (ICC) on July 24, 2026.

The State Department also highlighted the alliance of the United States with the new government of Venezuela in "efforts to dismantle the corrupt and useless ICC."
Although Venezuela's departure from the ICC has no immediate effect, this decision places the country alongside others that are not part of the Rome Statute.
United States accuses ICC of inefficiency in arresting Maduro
In its statement, the United States criticized the passive attitude of the ICC, which it accused of having conducted fruitless investigations since 2018 against Nicolás Maduro.
The U.S. government claims that, thanks to the leadership of President Donald Trump and the courage of brave soldiers, the capture of the Venezuelan dictator was achieved.
Furthermore, it pointed out the ICC for "wasting its resources" by investigating and prosecuting people from countries with competent and independent judicial systems that were never under the court's jurisdiction.

Regarding its departure from the ICC, the Venezuelan government justified the measure by asserting that the court has lost its impartiality and acts with political motivations.
Additionally, it accused the ICC of violating the sovereignty of states by intervening in matters that, according to Caracas, should be resolved by national judicial systems themselves.
For its part, the United States reiterated that the ICC is neither credible, nor independent, nor legitimate, and called on the remaining ICC members to also withdraw from the Rome Statute.
